A history of Drew Bree’s Passing Yards Record
Monday night October 8, 2018, New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees passed Brett Favre and Peyton Manning to become the all-time leader in passing yardage. Going into the game, Drew Brees had 71,740 all-time passing yards over 18 seasons. The all-time passing yards leader, Peyton Manning, had 71,940. For Drew Brees to pass Brett Favre, he needed 99 yards and to pass Peyton Manning he needed 201. Most quarterbacks throw 201 yards in a game on a good day; however, Drew Bree’s is a spectacular athlete. In this record setting game, Drew Brees threw for 363 yards. He attempted 29 passes and completed 26 of those passes; in addition, he threw 3 touchdowns. While many would say that Drew Brees has had it easy always being on a good team with positive players around him, the truth is that’s not always been the case. Drew Brees has had a very exhilarating career in football. From going undefeated in his senior year and winning the state championship to breaking his shoulder in 2004, Drew Bree’s has experienced the triumphs and trials.
Drew has also had a very difficult life outside of football. His mother and father got divorced when Bree’s was young, and he had to deal with an almost career ending knee injury in his junior year of high school. His relationship with his mother was extremely difficult at times; he would call it nonexistent. Drew Bree’s mother, Mina, has used her son’s fame to promote her own in winning a local government election without his consent. Although Drew Bree’s and his mother had a difficult relationship, her death in 2009 wounded him deeply. For Drew Brees 2009 could be described as his best yet worst year. His mother’s death and the horrific hurricane which hit New Orleans made it seem like it would be impossible to produce a good football team. However, the Saints won the Super bowl that year giving hope to a devasted Bree’s and New Orleans. Ever since the Super bowl, Brees has consistently produced an elite quarterback rating and a competitive football team. Drew Brees is a spectacular athlete. Through persistence has proven he can perform better than other quarterbacks and win consistently. To do what Drew Brees has done, one must work hard, and I believe that Brees is someone to not just look up to in sports but also in life. He has overcome adversity and criticism throughout his life and his passion for football inspires not only dedicated football fans but also regular people.
